Journey Through Antique – From Towering Mountains to Pristine Beaches
How does it feel to trade city noise for the soft rustle of trees and the whisper of waves?
Antique is a place where nature speaks to your soul—where towering mountains slowly lead you to peaceful beaches, and where every destination has a story to tell. Located on the western side of Panay Island, Antique is made up of 18 municipalities and 1 component city, San Jose de Buenavista, which is also the capital town. Each area offers something special, from mountain adventures to serene coastal spots. As someone who was born and raised in this province, I’ve had the chance to explore almost every corner of it, and I can honestly say it’s a hidden gem full of picturesque views and unforgettable experiences. From its cool highlands to its crystal-clear waters, Antique has everything a traveler could dream of—whether you're looking for adventure, relaxation, or just a quiet escape from the busy city life. The best time to visit Antique is during the dry season, from November to May, when the weather is perfect for exploring beaches, hiking trails, and other outdoor attractions.
One of my favorite trips was to Pandan, Antique, where I experienced the beauty of its white beaches. Honestly, you don't need to go all the way to Boracay—Pandan offers the same powdery white sands without the crowd. I recommend visiting Tingib Resort, which offers not just a relaxing beach experience but also a stunning view and stylish design. What makes it more special is the campsite where you can perfectly enjoy both the sunrise and sunset with the calming sound of the waves. Not far from there, you can also explore Malumpati Cold Spring. The water is so fresh and clean, it feels like dipping into nature itself. It’s a great spot for swimming and picnicking with friends or family, and you can even try the river tubing adventure that adds a little thrill to your relaxing day.
If you're into hiking and waterfalls, visit Sebaste and explore the famous Igpasungaw Falls. I went there last November 23, 2022, and it was truly a magical experience. The hike is not too difficult, and the trail is surrounded by trees and nature. Once you reach the falls, you're greeted by cool waters cascading down rock formations, creating a peaceful and refreshing atmosphere. For those who love culture and island life, Culasi is the place to be. You can visit the beautiful Mararison Island, known for its rolling hills and clear waters, and Madja-as Park or Mount Madja-as if you're up for a challenging hike and want to see one of the tallest peaks in the Visayas. And of course, no Antique experience is complete without trying the famous kawa bath in Tibiao. Imagine sitting in a huge cauldron filled with warm water, flowers, and herbs while surrounded by the calming sound of the river—it’s truly one-of-a-kind and perfect for relaxing sore muscles after a day of exploring.
Last March 5, 2021, I went to San Remigio, and I can say it really lives up to its nickname as the "Little Baguio of Antique." The weather there is so cold, especially in the early morning. You’ll find strawberries, flower gardens, and fun activities you can enjoy while staying in the area. We arrived around 5 AM, and it was so foggy—just perfect for sipping hot chocolate and enjoying warm bread while taking in the amazing mountain view. My brother even flew his drone to capture the peaceful surroundings, and we now have beautiful footage that lets us relive that magical morning again and again. That’s the beauty of Antique—it offers everything in one destination. Whether you're into traveling, hiking, swimming, thrilling adventures, or just peaceful moments with nature, Antique has it all. It’s not just a place to visit—it’s a place to feel alive, to connect, and to create memories that last a lifetime.

Discover Catanduanes: Surf, Nature, and Peaceful Vibes
What makes Catanduanes a hidden paradise for quiet souls and nature explorers?
If you’re looking for a peaceful and beautiful escape, I highly recommend visiting Catanduanes a place that truly captured my heart. Located in the eastern part of the Philippines, this “Happy Island” is known for its strong waves, green mountains, quiet beaches, and calming vibe. When I visited, I was amazed at how untouched and serene the island felt. Unlike crowded tourist spots, Catanduanes lets you breathe, slow down, and reconnect with nature. One of my favorite moments was watching surfers ride the waves at Puraran Beach. I did surf myself, and just sitting on the sand with the salty breeze and the sound of the waves was incredibly relaxing. I also got to chase waterfalls Maribina Falls was easy to reach and perfect for a quick dip, while another hidden one required a short trek, which made the adventure more exciting.
Before your trip, make sure to pack smart. I brought light clothes, slippers, and a rain jacket since I went during the rainy season and it did rain, but that didn’t stop me from enjoying the trip. Don’t forget sunblock and insect repellent I learned that the hard way after a few itchy nights!. Also, make sure to bring enough cash I had trouble finding an ATM that worked in one area, so it’s best to be prepared. I also brought a reusable water bottle and eco bag, which came in handy and helped reduce plastic waste. Getting around is simple. I mostly rode tricycles and jeepneys, which were not only affordable but also gave me a feel of local life. For more remote areas, some travelers rented motorbikes just be sure to follow road rules and wear a helmet. One thing I truly enjoyed was the local food. I tried binurong isda (fermented fish) for the first time it was an acquired taste but definitely unique! I loved the sweet latik, and the fresh spicy seafood reminded me of home cooked Bicolano dishes. Small eateries and carinderias serve amazing food and the locals are so welcoming. I had great conversations just over a simple meal. For safety, always check the weather. Catanduanes is prone to typhoons, so I planned my trip during the dry season. If you’re going to waterfalls or beaches far from town, let someone know your plans. I always had a small first-aid kit in my bag, just in case. Follow local signs, especially when swimming or hiking it’s better to be cautious in nature spots.
Lastly, be a respectful traveler. Locals appreciate it when visitors are kind and polite. I made sure to greet people with a smile. I also avoided leaving trash behind and always asked permission before taking photos, especially in smaller communities. Catanduanes isn’t just a destination it’s an experience that stays with you. From its stunning views to its simple island life, this place reminded me to slow down and appreciate the small things. If you’re looking for a quiet, meaningful trip, this island might just be the peaceful escape you’ve been looking for.
